Hello, Chicago!

A few months back I had the wonderful experience of being invited onto Financing the American Dream. I met with Mike Wieczorek in an apartment one of my clients was under contract on and we talked about one of my favorite topics. Logan Square.

Mike Wieczorek:All right. We're standing here with Mark Buckner with The Buckner group with Compass, and this is a unit that Mark has just gone under contract for one of his clients. They're the buyer on the transaction right?

Mark Buckner: Correct.

Mike Wieczorek: And we're in Logan Square here in Chicago. So tell me a little bit about Logan Square. Why is everybody so crazy about getting into this neighborhood?

Mark Buckner: You have three Blue Line stops in Logan Square. The L stops, giving you easy access to downtown. You're downtown on the Blue Line within 10 minutes, and don't forget: you can get out to Ohare from that. Plus, you're super close to highway access. The other thing that people really like is that you have four boulevards in Logan Square. The trees are almost organically positioned, where you'll see people out there with hammocks and a little grill going. Chicago's always been a big planned city, especially after the fire. So those trees were strategically planted. We've seen a lot of condos, single families, multi-units.

Mike Wieczorek:And what age group is coming in on those?

Mark Buckner: A lot of young adults, first-time home buyers, young professionals.

Mike Wieczorek:Why do so many people in that young professional category come to you?

Mark Buckner: One thing that people come to me for is my knowledge of construction. So I grew up in the trades, pounding stakes and shoveling concrete with my father. So I can identify good quality construction, which we are in. And then I can also identify poor quality construction.

Mike Wieczorek: What's your motto? What are those core values in your business that you like to stand by in all those transactions? What's important to you?

Mark Buckner: Customer service, responsiveness, good negotiating skills, and a good understanding of homes and being bold.

Mike Wieczorek: So what else about Logan Square should we know about?

Mark Buckner: There's a number of places. One of my favorites is Bang Bang Pie. If you haven't been: if you like pie, if you like biscuits, they got an outrageous breakfast sandwich.
